The 2nd Annual Warm Winter Drive has taken on new partners and we are so excited to welcome them. We welcome the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau http://www.consumerfinance.gov/ , and Cohn Reznick http://www.cohnreznick.com/, They join the list of wonderful partners like the B-Café http://www.thebrooklandcafe.com/, and Giant Food Store (Brentwood Road NE location) along with our returning partners from last year: Blacks in Government (B.I.G) USAID Chapter http://bignet.org/, Intelsat General Services Corporation http://www.intelsatgeneral.com/, John J, Kirlin Mechanical Services http://www.jjkllc.com/, Without the help from these businesses and organizations we would not be able to help the many needy individuals and families of Washington, D.C. who are not able to afford to buy a winter coat this year. With the temperatures being so unpredictable its hard to gage just what the weather will be like from day-to-day.
Last year, our first Warm Winter Coat Drive started on October 30 – November 15, 2013, with the actual Coat Giveaway on Friday, November 15, 2013. Our friends at the Macedonia Baptist Church located at 2625 Stanton Rd, S.E. Washington, D.C., hosted the event for us at their church. The word quickly got out around the city of Washington D.C. and before we opened our doors there were over 100 people waiting patiently in line to get just one winter coat. This giveaway was so successful, we ran out of the several hundred donated coats we had received from our wonderful partners: Blacks-In-Government (BIG), MANRRS (Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources & Related Sciences) Region 1 Chapter of UDC, and John J. Kirlin Mechanical, Intelsat General Corporation, and the Eleanor Roosevelt High School.
It’s still not too late to donate your coats, jackets, hats, gloves, etc. to this worthy event. The last day to drop off your items is: Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Our drop boxes are located at: B-Café 3740 12th Street NE, Washington, D.C. 20017, and Giant Food Store 1050 Brentwood Road NE Washington, D.C. 20018.
